The Body’s Immune Declines, Expert: Vaccines Are Not Enough
At this time, new mutations of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been found, namely the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants. The occurrence of this mutation is likely to continue to occur in the future while our immune system is decreasing.
Related to this, the General Chair of the Indonesian Allergy Immunology Association (PERALMUNI) Prof. Dr. dr. Iris Rengganis, SpPD, K-AI said that the decline in the immune system does occur over time.
“As we get older, the immune system decreases. In addition, stress can also be one of the triggers,” said Iris in a virtual press conference with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) some time ago.
He added, there are efforts to maintain the immune system by adopting a healthy lifestyle. The application of a healthy lifestyle includes sleeping 8 hours, drinking 8 glasses of water per day with each glass 250 milliliters or 2 liters per day.
“Enough rest, healthy food, prayer, and so on. We have to keep doing that every day. Because our bodies cannot be forced to continue working without having a healthy lifestyle,” explained Iris.
On the other hand, vaccination alone is not enough, he continued, the consumption of minerals and vitamins is recommended.
“One of them is B vitamins which are now the prima donna because B vitamins can improve the immune system in addition to other vitamins,” he explained.
Consumption of Immunomodulator
Iris also invites people to consume immunomodulators or immune system regulators that can come from natural herbal ingredients.
“There are a lot of herbs circulating now, so if the herbs are correct, please consult your respective doctor, which one can be used to increase the immune system,” explained Iris.
“So it can’t just be a vaccine, it can’t just be a health protocol, it can’t just be healthy food without a health protocol, we recommend that everything is complete as much as possible,” he continued.
The existence of mutations in several variants or subvariants can make them then have the ability to evade the human immune system. This may happen because the body’s immune system does not recognize this new variant of the virus because it is still not contaminated.
