4 Health Problems That Can Be Caused by Consumption of Milk

Milk is a drink that is rich in nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and protein. But unfortunately not everyone can consume milk safely and comfortably.

At least about 75 percent of the world’s population is lactose intolerant which causes them to digest milk properly. Lactose is the largest content stored in milk.

In some of these people, milk can cause them to develop certain health conditions. But not only in people who have lactose intolerance, consumption of milk can also cause a number of health problems that are not realized.

For example, a study revealed that countries with low levels of dairy and calcium consumption had lower cases of osteoporosis. In addition, there are other reasons that also explain the dangers of consuming this milk.

A number of health problems can be caused by milk due to a number of conditions. Reporting from Health24, here are a number of problems that can be caused by consuming milk.

Can Cause Acne

A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology showed that teens with acne tended to drink large amounts of both skimmed and low-fat milk. This finding was obtained from a study conducted on 225 adolescents aged between 14 and 19 years.

The amount of milk they consume every day is monitored and interviews are conducted with these teenagers. It is known that those with acne have significant dairy consumption in their diet.

Increases Cancer Risk

Research reveals that excess calcium in milk and other foods can increase the risk of certain types of cancer. In particular, it can increase the risk of prostate cancer by about 30 to 50 percent in men.

It is also known that the sugar content in milk is associated with a higher risk of ovarian cancer in women. Although further research is needed, it is known that growth hormone given to cows has a high chemical content and can increase the risk of cancer.

Triggers Allergic Reactions

Milk allergy is common in both adults and children. Consuming milk can trigger an allergic reaction if you are sensitive to milk or other processed products.

Symptoms of this allergy include sneezing, difficulty breathing, blood in the stool, constipation, diarrhea, and worsening skin conditions such as eczema. Sensitivity to casein, a protein in milk, can cause other reactions including nasal congestion, skin rashes, and migraines.

Can Increase Bad Cholesterol

There are two types of cholesterol, namely good and bad. Unfortunately, despite having a myriad of nutrients that are good for health, milk contains bad cholesterol.

When your body has an excess of bad cholesterol, your arteries can become blocked, increasing your risk of heart disease. Milk contains saturated fat and trans fat, both of which can increase the level of bad cholesterol in the body.

Although it has a number of problems for health, you should also leave this drink completely. Just make sure not to overdo it so you don’t experience a number of these problems.
